Hẹn gặp anh em vào trận đáng chú ý sắp tới, Canelo Alvarez đứng trước cơ hội trở thành undisputed champion hạng super middleweight vào ngày 6/11 (đánh với Caleb Plant). Trước đó 30/10 có trận tranh đai interim WBC heavyweight giữa hai bại tướng của Wilder và Fury là Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin, người thắng nhiều khả năng sẽ đánh với Fury tranh đai WBC trong thời gian chờ Usyk vs. Joshua II.

20/11 thì có trận Terence Crawford vs. Shawn Porter. Một trong những trận dream superfight mình mong nhất từ 2019 tới giờ là Crawford vs. Errol Spence, không biết bao giờ có cơ hội diễn ra :(.

 

UFC 269 mất trận Moreno vs. Figueiredo III chuyển sang UFC 270: Ngannou vs. Gane, nhưng bù lại bổ sung thêm hai trận rất chất lượng hạng WW là Ponzinibbio vs. Neal và đặc biệt là grudge match giữa Jorge Masvidal vs. Leon Edwards.

MMAF: Where you worried about the fight with Dustin falling off? With him calling out Nate Diaz and whatnot.

Charles: No, we had already picked a date to return, that would be the 1st, 2nd week of December. We thought it would be Poirier, but I was training and ready to fight anyone on that date. He's a great fighter and deserves respect, but the champion's name is Charles Oliveira, and I don't wait for anyone.

MMAF: How do you think your style clashes with Dustin's?

Charles: He's a tremendous fighter, deserves all the respect in the world, but I honestly don't care. All I'm worried about is what I can bring into that octagon, not what my opponents can. I've been showing all my growth at each fight, my spirit to take hits and come out on top, my ground game, my striking and firepower, all I look forward is to show how good I am

MMAF: Dustin Poirier beat Conor twice, first was a knockout, and second was that leg injury, though the fight was walking towards a win for Poirier. What did you think of those fights, were you impressed by Poirier, or do you think that was more a case of Conor not being as good anymore?

Charles: No, I think Dustin deserved both wins and all due respect. Of course we're talking about MMA and anything could have happened after the 1st round of the second fight, we will never know. Conor could have come back and won, but he could also had been finished. What we do know is what Dustin has showed us and what he has been showing us throught his whole career, which are great performances. I'm glad to be defending against such a respectful and deserving opponent.

MMAF: You keep going on about how much respect he deserves but what about you? Do you feel like you've been getting your due respect, cause i think that outside our country people don't seem to be capable of giving you credit for what you've done.

Charles: I don't think so. But not only outside Brazil, if Jesus wasn't able to please everyone, I won't be the one to do it. But we have to put on the balance what I've done: 11 years in the UFC to become champion, 9 win streak, most bonuses, most submissions, longest road towards the tile. I think I've earned it. People who say I didn't deserve the title fight cause of the opponents I've fought, but there was no one with my winstreak, 8 wins in a row, 7 finishes, Tony being the only decision, still everyone saw how that fight went. I didn't even had a month to train for Tony, 15 days was what they gave me. And still I did what I did, I don't need to keep yapping about these things. They keep talking about what happened in the Chandler fight, but when he knocked me down, even though he spent 3 minutes punching me, i didn't give him the opportunity to finish, but as soon as I caught him he was out in a couple of seconds. So how come I don't deserve respect? I do, and there's a lot of people that respect me, as there will be a lot of people that don't. What I will do is keep making history, fighting the best and putting out legendary performances. For those who say i need to beat Dustin to prove I'm the champion, I'm already the champion, and this will be my first defense.

MMAF: Do you think the UFC respects you?

Charles: I think so, I get treated fairly, I've been earning more money each fight. My manager has been working well. Of course I think that since I'm not much of a talker it complicates things a bit for me, but i make up for it inside the octagon. I'm not like these losers that keep barking and meowing for clout, my talking happens in the fight.

MMAF: Do you think the respect shown to you will improve after you beat Poirier? Since he is so beloved by the North American public, particularly.

Charles: No I don't, I think they'll just keep dragging it along saying I should beat this guy or that guy (PS: Like some people do with Leon). So I'll just keep doing what I do, that is finishing anyone that shows up in front of me.

MMAF: Did you think it was disrespectful the way Dustin seemed to show more interest in fighting a bum in Nate Diaz, instead of the belt holder?

Charles: I think it cuts both ways. Why make that choice Fear? Money? We don't know. But each of us should do what's best for us. I've realized my dream of winning my title fight, now I intend to defend it, it doesn't matter who is it against. That's what I need to do now.

MMAF: You touched the possibility of him being afraid. What do you think it's more likely, that he was trying to avoid you for fear or money?

Charles: I think it's money. He already put out the possibility of retiring, so he's probably trying to earn as much as he can and he has his family to take care of. He's not wrong.

MMAF: Seems like the UFC ****ing got your name wrong when engraving it in the belt. Did that piss you off?

Charles: No, honestly I was so happy I didn't even mind it, they probably have it fixed now, but I still have to pick it up. We will do it soon, but for now I'm just enjoying my moment, getting nice clothes, house and car. It's been a long way since my childhood, having so much financial freedom is a dream realized for me and my family. I've been able to achieve a lot, including getting myself a couple of top tier horses for racing.

MMAF: You're a humble and respectful man, but your last three opponents talked a lot of s**t to you. Poirier on the other hand seems different than those guys. Will his more respectful approach make a difference to you during the fight?

Charles: It honestly doesn't make a difference, anything bad that these guys say will go through one ear and come out of the other. This is my job, a tool in which I use to feed my family and I'm a professional. Their verbal approach coming into a fight against me makes no difference, when fighting Dustin, I'll go in, do what I train to do, and when it's done I'm going to thank him and show him respect, because this is who I am. Kevin Lee talked a lot, but when the fight was over I went there and hugged him, talked to him afterwards in the back and got good vibes from him, Tony also talked a lot before our fight, but when it was over I showed him love and respect, and even before my fight with Chandler, Tony was there and he ended up giving me a lot of strength talking to me.

MMAF: You've said it doesn't make a difference when the guy is disrespecting you, but what if he's friendly like Poirier is?

Charles: It still doesn't change, because it's my job, I'm coming there to work and my focus is unwavering, I'll defend my belt.

MMAF: Chandler has been saying some things lately about how you're good, but Poirier is better, and Gaethje has been calling you a quitter in face of adversity, narrative Poirier himself shot down, pinpointing how you came around in the fight against Chandler. Does this slander irritates you?

Charles: Chandler got the opportunity to fight for the belt, got hired over from Bellator to compete here at the highest level. Had an awesome debut, in the fight against me he caught me with a hard shot, had the chance to end to fight, but was incapable of finishing it, So I went there and knocked him out. Justin Gaethje, had the opportunity to fight for the title against Khabib, and you saw what happen, I shouldn't even be talking about this, it was the ugliest fight I've ever seen in my life, he died in there. What's there to talk about? Do you know when someone has to bark and meow in social media to stay relevant? That's in my opinion what he's doing. December 11 Charles Oliveira will be fighting to defend his belt, and if god wills it and I defend it, these guys can come, but they need to show activity, they need to fight and they need to win, if they do so they can come over and fight me to see if I'm going to give up, seems like they don't understand how I've changed, I'm well physically, spiritually and emotionally. They can hit hard, but I wonder if they will be able to take it when I hit them back. In the end these guys just want to show off, that's what you do when you can't fight, Gaethje has been out for what? A year? And he's last fight was what it was. If he doesn't fight, the only way to stay relevant is by talking, and what they're talking doesn't make sense. About Chandler, well, he has the right to his opinion, it's his money and his bet, sometimes we're side by side with friends that don't believe in us to win, let alone strangers like him, it makes no difference to me, I'm the champion, and I what comes from below doesn't get to me. If they think I'll give up, tell them to win their fights and come, then we will see what's what, but when they do they better come prepared on the feet and on the ground. Talking makes no difference, if it did the UFC would be putting Parrots to win fights, I have a red parrot on one of my places that talks the entire day, It would beat everyone. What you need is to have firepower, high level BJJ and good wrestling. How many guys talk your ears off before a fight and are made to look foolish inside the octagon?

MMAF: We here have a ranking that is different than the UFCs, includes everyone from every organization. And most of the site voted to put Poirier above you for all his achievements being, in their point, superior to yours. What do you think about this?

Charles: it's like I've just explained, it's your money and your bet. December 11 we will see who's the best and who isn't, there's no point in worrying about this now. I believe and trust in myself, I believe I have more weapons than he does. To put this into perspective, watch all of his fights and watch mine, see my strong points and his. And was taken down by strikers very easily, if I take him down, you know what's going to happen, if the fight stays on the feet, he better watch out for I have been winning many fights by knockout. So the fight is going to be fire, I respect him a lot, but I intend to keep my belt, we each have 2 months to prepare. It's been a long time since I would worry about what people say on social media. What matters it's how we are ourselves feel, and I've been feeling great, happy about everything that's been happening to me and my family.

MMAF: Another guy that has been talking a lot is Khabib, at first he showed respect to you, saying it's your era and your moment, but he also has been pushing Makhachev, of course they're friends, but with other people he seems to have become a bit of a hater, calling Jose Aldo an out of prime money fighter, telling Tony to retire, attacking Ring Girls, did he become an asshole after retirement? Bored about retirement now all he wants to do is tell people how to live their lives.

Charles: Well, I mean, of course he will push Makhachev, it's his childhood friend, they're basically family, but like I've been telling you already... Look, let's talk about fights, what does he do? He takes people down and maul then with his Sambo, he could try to take me down, I'd have no issues with it.

MMAF: Do you think he reaches the title fight, or does he fall along the way?

Charles: The UFC has been giving him great fights, first with Rafael, and now Hooker, let's first sit back and see what happens, I think there are still a few guys ahead of him, but he's definitely someone to respect, he's been writing his own history his own way. Definitely a great fighter.

MMAF: You're someone who's also seem to have earned a lot of respect amongst fighters. I know you've said you keep out of social media, but I imagine you've heard about how many fighters like Edson, Marlon and Moicano, amongst others have said they see you as an inspiration. After all you've not someone that got into the UFC, won 3 fights and got to win the belt, it was a gruelling road of highs and lows, resilience and improvement. How do you feel being seen in such way by so many amazing fighters in the UFC?

Charles: Very happy, my purpose and the legacy I want to carry out is to show everyone, the kids in my community how you can work hard and achieve your dreams, and I'm not talking about fights only but life in general, I'm talking about putting effort into things and seeing the rewards materialize, messages like this greatly motivates me to keep on moving forward everyday. I've got an audio from a kid telling me he's going to see me fight in December, that he'd be fighting alongside me in spirit, that's inspiration for me.

MMAF: You know as a fighter things can change very quickly, and it's not a career you can carry out forever, have you thought about your plans for the future? Do you intend to fight well into your 50s or just do it for a while and look to retire on top, kick back and relax?

Charles: My plan is to do this for as long as I feel well enough to do it, and not past that.
